We are living in an
unforgettable era; right now, at this very moment. We will be known for our bigotry, misogyny
and discrimination. We will be known for
hateful rallies and even worse yet, the cheering at those rallies. We will be known for the demonizing of NFL
Players that kneel in protest to black and brown lives being taken senselessly
in the streets across our nation by the very people that have taken a sworn
oath to protect those same people.
Mostly, we will be known for allowing our nation to be split by a man
who had taken an oath to govern for all of America and yet he seems to be capable
of governing for only a third of the country.
You see, history has this unique ability to recall the best in us as well as the very worst in us. Look back at history and you will know this to be true.
But the wonderful thing
about all of this is that it is just a period and we the people can change the
course of history.
If we don’t like the
course that this country is going in, we have the power to change it. We can vote the people that don’t do their jobs
out of office.
Right now, the Republican
Party has become the party of Trump. The
party used to be guided by conservative principles; conservative with fiscal
spending…conservative socially. And then
something happened with the election of Donald J. Trump. People started to believe the rhetoric that
came from the Whitehouse. They started
to believe the lies that came from this president daily. And at the rallies, people were being whipped
up into a frenzy with the belief that “other” people were responsible for their
woes and that Trump and only Trump could put the salve on their wounds.
We are standing on the
precipice of our democracy falling victim to becoming an authoritarian regime;
which is not what the founding fathers wanted for the people of this great
nation. We as a people have a choice.
In less than three weeks,
we as a people can start taking control of our government. We can remind our elected officials that their
job is to serve the American People and not the president of the United States.
Now is your time to exercise
your right and vote.
~ J.L. Whitehead
I don't think that folks realize just how important this election is. Please don't underestimate enemies...both abroad and in our Whitehouse!
